As a setting, we have been working hard to get rid of as much plastic in our setting as possible, and replace with more eco-friendly materials such as wood, metal, fabric and so on.
Our latest mission was to replace all of our plastic cups, plates and bowls – and we finally have success!

A few weeks ago, our wooden bowls and plates arrived, which just left us with the job of coating it in a food-safe protective resin so that they are ready to use! They’re finally completely dry which means in the coming week we will begin to use them.

Our next job was to replace all of the children’s plastic water bottles – and thanks to a clearance sale at TK Maxx/Homesense we were able to buy all of the children their very own metal water bottle.
The children were excited to come home from school to pick their very own bottle in whatever pattern/colour they wanted, and it has since encouraged them to drink more water as they like showing off their very own bottles!

Another huge investment we have made has been our fabric bibs! Instead of giving the Under 5’s plastic bibs to use at meal times – we have purchased some wonderful material bibs (similar to the thick material bibs and size of those used in netball) from the wonderful Liz at Cats ‘n’ That in Barleylands, Billericay. They are a dark material that can easily be washed and any stains would go unnoticeable. Both staff and the children are very pleased with them and love to wear them.
